Brooklyn Mornings: Hopi Kachina Dolls
Individuals with memory loss and their care partners are invited to explore Hopi Kachina Dolls: Blessings for a Balanced World . Kachina dolls ( tithu ) represent Katsinam, spirits who bring much-needed moisture and keep the world in balance for the Hopi, an Indigenous tribe in arid northeastern Arizona. Carved from cottonwood and distinctively painted, the dolls are treasured gifts from the Katsinam, given primarily to Hopi girls and women. Understand the significance of kachina dolls, and discover how Hopi women artists have sustained their communities by producing Katsinam-inspired baskets, jewelry, and ceramics. Plus, express yourself through art making, and relax and enjoy one another’s company. Free; registration is required. Questions or need assistance registering?
